My 2015 recap

I have had years in which I played more golf courses than I did in 2015, but this has to be near the top when it comes to quality of golf courses and great experiences.

For the year, I played 28 different courses in 10 states. No new states in 2015, so I have still played golf in 33 of the 50 states. I’m hoping to add at least on in 2016. Of the 28 courses, 15 of them — more than half — were courses that I had never played before. The highlight there was a Michigan weekend in which I played Orchard Lake in the Detroit suburbs and then Crystal Downs and Kingsley Club in Northern Michigan. All three were a treat, but the ability to play Crystal Downs – No. 13 in the US according to Golf Digest and the No. 10 Classic course in the US according to Golfweek – was a great treat.

With the 15 new courses, I have now played 257 different courses since the beginning of the 2002 golf season. I already have a couple of rounds planned for early 2016 and I’ll grow that number over the next 12 months.

Here is the list of all courses I have played in 2015. This list includes both new courses and repeat performances.

My 2014 wrapup

I played 35 different courses and played in 12 states and two Canadian provinces. The year featured my first-ever rounds in Washington state and Virginia. I also had a great weekend in which I played 2015 US Open site Chambers Bay on a Friday and a pair of consensus Canada top 10 courses — Capilano and Shaughnessy in the Vancouver, BC, area — over the weekend. I have now played golf in 33 of the 50 US states. Of the courses I played, 18 were brand new to me or at least new since I began tracking the courses I have played since 2002.

My 2012 wrapup

Here are the totals: I played 35 different courses in 2012, an increase over 2011. I played in seven different states (Texas, Minnesota, Illinois, Oregon, Wisconsin, Michigan and Arizona). I had played in all of those states previously. One of the best things about my 2012 is the number of new courses I played. I’ve been tracking the number of different courses I’ve played since 2002 and I was able to add 17 courses to that list in 2012. Most importantly, I was able to play three rounds at White Bear Yacht Club, which is easily the most fun course to play in the Twin Cities. While I haven’t played every single private club in the Twin Cities, it was the only one that I really wanted to play that I hadn’t.
